About Jennifer Lunt

Jennifer Lunt was appointed as the first Alternate Public Defender by the Washoe County Commission March 20, 2007. The office was fully equipped and staffed in the following months and, by July 2, 2007, attorneys were making court appearances on behalf of APD clients.

Jennifer, who was born and raised in Reno, attended local schools and graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from the University of Nevada Reno.  She worked as a journalist for the Elko Daily Free Press before deciding to become a lawyer. She graduated with honors from McGeorge School of Law in 1987. She is licensed both in Nevada and California.

Upon completion of law school, she served as a law clerk/bailiff for Judge James Guinnan with the Second Judicial District Court. Other than a brief foray as a prosecutor in the Reno City Attorney's Office, she has worked in criminal defense. Prior to becoming the Alternate Public Defender, she spent a total of 17 years in the Washoe County Public Defender's Office. During the last ten years in the Public Defender's Office, she was a Chief Deputy.

Jennifer has represented thousands of clients, with charges ranging from misdemeanors up through homicide. Jennifer has been qualified under the Nevada Supreme Court rules to represent clients facing the death penalty for more than a decade.

Jennifer enjoys the challenges of her work, and has dedicated herself to providing quality professional legal services to the people of Washoe County who would not otherwise have a voice in the courtroom.

Memberships include the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Legal Aid and Defender Association, Nevada Attorneys for Criminal Justice, and the Washoe County Bar Association.
