Social media tools are designed to be disseminate information through social interaction. Social media supports the need for social interaction, using Internet- and web-based technologies to transform broadcast media monologues (one to many) into social media dialogues (many to many).
Social Media is about conversations and the opportunity to share information through those conversations.
The Washoe County Emergency Management & Homeland Security (EMHS) department uses social media tools to continue to inform and prepare the community for disasters.
Fans or followers will receive weekly tips or information to help families continue to prepare for emergencies. Also, community members will be given a glimpse into the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. And finally, fans/followers will be noticed if there is community concern about a possible emergency. There are currently three ways to follow EMHS through social media.
