Sentencing scheduled for Jan. 24, 2013.
On December 12, 2012, Robert Schnueringer, age 20, Andrue Jefferson, age 20, and Zach Kelsey, age 19, were found guilty by a Washoe County Jury of Second Degree Murder for the beating death of Jared Hyde. Jared Hyde was twenty years old when he was beaten to death at a party held at the Stead Race Track on February 5, 2012. Schnueringer, Jefferson, and Kelsey face up to life in prison with minimum parole eligibility after ten years. Sentencing is scheduled for January 24, 2013.

During trial, Kelsey proclaimed himself to be Straight-Edge, which is a group deemed a gang by the Reno Police Department in February 2005. Straight-Edge proclaim not to drink or do drugs, but are known by law enforcement for engaging in violence. Testimony also revealed that Schnueringer and Jefferson are affiliated with a group that call themselves Twisted Minds. This group was known as a tagging crew but has now been deemed a gang by local law enforcement.

Evidence demonstrated that Jared Hyde did not seek any quarrel with the three men who beat him to death and that he was singled out because he was not from the North Valleys and had questioned a violent outburst that had occurred at the party. Officials from the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office warn that this case should serve as a grave example of the consequences of engaging in violent behavior.
