Reno, Nevada. Jan. 25, 2013. On Nov. 18, 2011, the Caughlin Fire burned approximately 24 acres of Bartley Ranch Regional Park. Restoration efforts have been underway since the devastating fire with many individuals and organizations helping to re-seed the damaged areas and rebuild bridges, fences and trails. This Saturday, Jan. 26, Washoe County Parks staff and volunteers will be removing fencing and opening the gates of Audrey Harris Park, also known as Windy Hill.

Who: Washoe County Parks staff and volunteers along with partners of the project, which includes the Washoe County Community Services Department, Nevada Land Trust and the NV Energy Foundation are all helping with the restoration efforts.

What: NV Energy Foundation donated $20,000 to seed approximately 30 acres of Bartley Ranch Park in an effort to restore native vegetation to the damaged natural areas of the park. The monies are also used for the maintenance of three shrub gardens, all of which were planted in November and December 2012. In addition, the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation has donated nearly $50,000 toward overall restoration efforts at Bartley Ranch Park.

Where: Bartley Ranch is located on Bartley Ranch Road, off Lakeside Drive south of McCarran Blvd. in south Reno. The park has 56 acres of scenic pasture, walking trails, a regulation size horse arena and warm-up arena, the Western Heritage Interpretive Center and the restored Old Huffaker School.

When: The seeding efforts will take place this Saturday, Jan. 26 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
