Reno, Nevada. June 6, 2013. KOLO TV viewers are helping Washoe County’s Department of Senior Services (WCSS) provide fans to cool local seniors by donating new electric fans for distribution to seniors in need.

Everyone who wants to help seniors survive the summer heat is encouraged to join the KOLO Channel 8 “Fan Club” by dropping off new fans at the Washoe County Senior Services Center in Reno at Ninth St. and Sutro Streets.

“Last year, KOLO Fan Club members helped out over 345 local seniors who did not have a way to beat the heat,” Washoe County Senior Services Director Grady Tarbutton said. “Recipients are seniors age 60 and over who do not have air conditioning to help keep them comfortable during the hottest time of the summer months.”

Seniors in need of fans should contact Washoe County Senior Services at (775) 328-2575 or stop by the WCSS offices at 1155 E. 9th Street, Building E.  WCSS staff will be able to answer questions and assist seniors.

WCSS accepts donations of new fans only to ensure the fans provided to senior citizens will be functional and dependable for 1-2 years.  Many other worthwhile community organizations including the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities do accept the donation of "gently used" items.
