Reno, Nevada. June 27, 2013. The Washoe County’s Public Defender’s Office will commemorate the landmark decision of Gideon v. Wainwright with several distinguished speakers Monday, July 1 at 11:45 a.m. at the Washoe County Courthouse.
WHAT: This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the United States Supreme Court's decision in the landmark case of Gideon v. Wainwright. While the name Gideon has become synonymous with the right to an attorney in a criminal case, challenges remain.
WHO: The event features several distinguished speakers who will highlight Nevada's rich tradition of providing access to counsel, including former U.S. Senator Richard Bryan, Nevada Supreme Court Justice Nancy Saitta and Washoe County Commission Chairman David Humke.
WHEN: Monday, July 1, 11:45 a.m.
WHERE: The second floor rotunda of the Historic Washoe County Courthouse, 75 Court Street, Reno.
The Washoe County Public Defender's Office will also showcase some of the innovative services provided to the people of Washoe County.
