For Immediate Release
Reno, Nevada. June 29, 2013. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) crews suppressed an early morning structure fire Saturday on Clarence Jasmine Drive in Galena Forest. Two occupants of the home were transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno. TMFPD Chief Charles Moore reported one injury was a burn to the shoulder and the second injury was due to smoke inhalation.
Fire crews were dispatched to the home at 2:45 a.m. Saturday and arrived to find heavy fire showing from the second floor. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and stopped the fire from fully involving the entire structure.
“The smoke detectors awakened the two people who were in the house at the time and saved their lives” said Chief Moore. “There was also a threat of this fire spreading to the wildlands and we are thankful there was no significant wind at the time of this fire. Our crews worked hard throughout the night and did a great job.”
The home sustained significant damage to the second floor and the TMFPD fire marshal is investigating the cause, which may have been started by a kitchen appliance. The TMFPD will release more details when the investigation is complete.
TMFPD crews stayed at the scene throughout the morning for heavy salvage and overhaul. Moore also reported two pet cats did not survive the fire.
