For Immediate Release
Reno, Nevada. March 21, 2014. Washoe County Social Services announced an exciting new partnership between the Scoutreach division of the Boy Scouts of America and Kids Kottage. This new collaboration provides residents of Kids Kottage the chance to participate in scouting through a Pack that will meet onsite beginning this month.
The Scoutreach Division of the Boy Scouts of America gives special leadership and emphasis to urban and rural Scouting programs. Scoutreach is the Nevada Area Council's commitment to making sure that all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood or ethnic background.
Scoutreach already partners with the Washoe County School District Title I Schools, the City of Reno Housing Authority, the Volunteers of America Homeless Shelter and the Boys and Girls Club. Scoutreach is funded through grants, foundations, and private donations.
Kids Kottage was established in 1991 as an emergency shelter for foster children to temporarily house children removed from their homes due to suspected abuse or neglect. Kids Kottage is operated 24 hours a day by Core Dynamics, LLC, under a contract with Washoe County Social Services. The three buildings that make up the Kids Kottages can house up to 82 children, both boys and girls, ranging in age from birth to 18 years. For more information, call the Kids Kottage at (775) 337-4470.
