Reno, Nevada. April 2, 2014. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) will permit open burning for a limited period of time, Thursday April 3 through Sunday April 6.

Residents of the TMFPD will be allowed to burn yard debris only.  Permits with all required restrictions and information may be downloaded from www.washoecounty.us/tmfpd. Permits issued to residents in March, 2014 are still valid. Burning must conclude by 2 p.m. each day and residents must adhere to the regulations listed on the burn permit.

Residents are subject to fines should they not follow the regulations of the permit or burn outside the permissible burn times and dates.  Burning of material in a burn barrel is not allowed at any time.  This will be the last time burning will be open for the spring season.

TMFPD cautions all residents to follow the guidelines on the burn permit and pay close attention to the winds and proximity to structures before commencement of burning. As an alternative to burning, TMFPD does offer its curbside chipping program once the burn ban is reinstated.  Information can be obtained at www.washoecounty.us/tmfpd/chipping.htm.

Residents are required to call the burn line prior to burning at (775) 326-6000 ext. 3 to verify it is a permissible burn day. If there are predicted high winds or red-flag warnings at any time during the open burning period, burning will be shut down until conditions improve.  Residents may call the main TMFPD office at (775) 326-6000 with further questions or visit www.washoecounty.us/tmfpd
