Reno - The first meeting of the Washoe County Health District Regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Advisory Board was held today. The Advisory Board is responsible for reviewing work conducted by the Health District Regional EMS Program and making recommendations regarding the provision of EMS by REMSA, Fire Agencies, and Dispatch in Washoe County. The Board is comprised of Sparks City Manager Steve Driscoll, Reno City Manager Andrew Klinger, Washoe County Manager John Slaughter, Washoe County District Health Officer Kevin Dick, Dr. Andrew Michelson (District Board of Health (DBOH) appointed Emergency Room Physician), and Terri Ward (DBOH appointed Hospital Continuous Quality Improvement Representative).

The board was created earlier this year after ratification of an Interlocal Agreement between the Reno City Council, Sparks City Council, Washoe County Board of Commissioners, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Board, and the Washoe County District Board of Health. The Agreement is designed to enhance opportunities for the Health District, REMSA, and other EMS providers to continuously improve upon EMS service in Washoe County.

During the inaugural meeting, Washoe County Manager John Slaughter was elected Chairman, and Washoe County District Health Officer was elected Vice-Chairman. The Board also discussed development of Regional EMS Advisory Committee bylaws and recommendations for issues and priorities to be addressed by the EMS program.

The next meeting of the Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board is set for December 4, 2014.
