Who/What: Health District issuing Yellow Burn Code and rescinding Red Burn Code

When: Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014 at 3 p.m., until further notice

Where: Reno, Sparks, and Southern Washoe County from Washoe Valley to Silver Knolls

Details: Weather conditions have improved and are expected to continue to improve the air quality.  Therefore, the Washoe County Health District, Air Quality Management Division is issuing the Yellow Burn Code and rescinding the Red Burn Code.  Residents of the Truckee Meadows are strongly encouraged to voluntarily reduce using their fireplaces, wood stoves, and pellet stoves until further notice.  Reducing burning now can help prevent air pollution from reaching unhealthy levels.  If you must use your fireplace, woodstove, or pellet stove, then remember to: Use only dry, seasoned wood, build small, hot fires instead of large smoldering ones, give your fire a generous air supply, and never burn trash including newspapers and magazines.
