Reno, Nevada. Jan 7, 2015. A Reno man has admitted his responsibility in a shoot-out with police officers last August by pleading guilty this morning to five felony charges arising from the incident. Luis Alberto Machado of Reno pled guilty to Discharging a Firearm From a Structure, Assault on an Officer with the Use of a Deadly Weapon, Resisting, Obstructing, and Delaying a Public Officer with the Use of a Firearm, Destruction or Injury to Property, and Trafficking in a Controlled Substance for his actions last Aug. 21, 2014, when he engaged in a shoot out with local police officers.

Officers were summoned to the Motel 6 at 2405 Victorian Ave. in the early morning hours of Aug. 21 with a report of shots fired. Officers arriving on scene were confronted by Machado firing an AR-15 rifle from the second floor of the motel. Machado continued to shoot as officers demanded he drop the weapon. No one was injured in the exchange, but more than 100 shots were fired by Machado during the incident damaging numerous vehicles in the parking lot and also the motel structure. Officers recovered three separate firearms from Machado’s hotel room, the AR-15 and two handguns, along with approximately two ounces of cocaine.

Machado faces a maximum possible of seven to 46 years in prison. He will be sentenced by Judge Lynne Simons on Feb. 25, 2015.
