RENO, NV - The Washoe County Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), a comprehensive assessment of the health of the community, has been released by the Washoe County Health District and Renown Health. According to health officials, the CHNA will be utilized by a wide variety of organizations working to address the health needs of the community. An Executive Summary and the complete CHNA can be accessed at www.renown.org/community or at www.washoecounty.us/health.

The report comes on the heels of the 2015 Truckee Meadows Healthy Communities Conference held last week in Reno. The conference brought together over 250 stakeholders and community members to discuss how to create a culture of health in the Truckee Meadows. Attendees heard from national speakers on the topic of building healthier communities. The goal of the conference is to build an action plan that addresses local health problems and further engages the community to implement projects that build a healthy community.

The CHNA findings are organized into these broad categories:

  • Health outcomes, health behaviors and historic trends;
  • Demographic and socioeconomic overview with comments on key populations;
  • Access to health care;
  • Health disparities; and,
  • Education.

The hope is that this CHNA will serve as a resource to understand and improve the health of our community.
