Community Cleanup of the Off-Leash Dog Area
Rancho San Rafael Regional Park
Saturday, March 14th 9:30am-11:30am

Join the Rancho San Rafael Park Rangers and Truckee Meadows Park Foundation for a morning of pasture beautification! We will be grooming the pasture of neglected dog waste and litter while also sprucing up the pasture entrances. Meet at the parking lot of the upper pasture entrance (by Coleman Street entrance) at 9:30am for the cleanup, with a guided hike courtesy of the Truckee Meadows Park Foundation at approximately 11:30am. All needed supplies will be provided. A representative from Washoe County Regional Animal Services will also be available to answer any questions and provide information about microchipping. Come in from the Cold Family Entertainment Series
Western Heritage Interpretive Center, Bartley Ranch

Come in from the cold Saturday evenings from January through March with a warm drink and some great local artists. Each program begins at 7pm with doors opening at 5pm. Seating is limited to 200 persons. A suggested donation of $3 per person is requested. Schedule subject to change.

Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body
May Museum, Rancho San Rafael Regional Park
January 3 - April 26, 2015

Eeewwwww, gross! Explore why your body produces mushy, oozy, crusty, scaly, and smelly gunk in GROSSOLOGY. This all-ages science-in-disguise exhibition uses animatronics and imaginative games to tell you the good, the bad, and the downright ugly about the human body! Gardening in Nevada Programs
Western Heritage Interpretive Center, Bartley Ranch Park

University of Nevada's Cooperative Extension teams up with Washoe County Parks to offer free gardening programs each Tuesday evening from 6:00pm to approximately 8:00pm. All classes are free! View a complete schedule of classes here, or call Wendy Hansen-Mazet with questions at (775) 784-4848.


Spring Equinox Walk & Presentation at the Labyrinth Garden
Wilbur D. May Arboretum, Rancho San Rafael Regional Park

Come, awaken your senses this spring in our beautiful perennial garden. Join Susan Stewart, May Arboretum Society Volunteer for our annual FREE Vernal Spring Equinox walk and meditation at the Labyrinth Garden. Learn about the history of these mysterious gardens and its healing and reflective powers. To register call the May Arboretum office at 785-4153 and leave your name, phone number or email address.  


Carson Sierra Spinners and Weavers Guild demonstrations and Historic Huffaker School Open House
Bartley Ranch Regional Park, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road

The Carson Sierra Spinners and Weavers Guild are a group of local craft artists that promote appreciation and knowledge of fiber arts in our community through demonstation, and encourage others to take up spinning and weaving to keep the fiber arts alive. The Historic Huffaker School will be open between 9am and 3pm for viewing of live demonstrations by the Spinners and Weavers, and for self guided tours. Park Rangers will be offering guided tours of the historic school house at 1pm. Dates include: Dec. 13, 2014 and Jan. 10, Feb. 14, March 14, April 11, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12 in 2015. This is a free event.


TREE REMOVAL AT WASHOE GOLF COURSE: Washoe County has retained American Arborist to conduct tree pruning and removal services along Foley Way and Skyline Boulevard at Washoe Golf Course beginning February 23, 2015. Please use caution in these areas as there may be lane closures to ensure the safety of workers, golfers, and vehicular traffic. The project is anticipated to take 2-3 weeks. TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE: On behalf of our community partner, Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway, we want to alert you to the temporary closure of the road from Verdi to Fleish Bridge. This section of roadway will remain closed until further notice. In the meantime, there are alternate sections of Bikeway to explore.
